4) GOPINATH – GOVINDA JAYA JAYA
This is the same song as #2, sung in ballad form. It segues into Govinda Jaya Jaya, which is one of the most famous and loved chants, not only in India but in the yoga and new age scenes around the world. In this song the chant is sung in traditional Bengali ‘kirtan’ style with call and group response vocals. Kirtan is loud singing and chanting and sankirtan is congregational singing and chanting. When perfected, the chanting leads to awareness of God’s absolute nature, i.e., there is no difference between the nami (“the named one”) and nama (“the name”). This particular chant is in glorification of God in His form of a lover and young cowherd boy in Vrindavan, a small town in northern India . It celebrates His pastimes with Radha who is God Himself in Her feminine form, manifest as separate in order to enjoy loving pastimes.
Govinda Jaya Jaya, Gopala Jaya Jaya
Radha Ramana Hari, Govinda Jaya Jaya
My Lord, who cares for and maintains the cows,
takes away all fear and is the lover of Radha.
