ABOUT SRI...
Classical Indian dance relies on the succession of knowledge passed from Guru to disciple. Sri began an intensive study of Odissi in Mumbai with Prarthana Vivek, disciple of Guru Jhelum Paranjape. After returning home, she met and became a disciple of acclaimed Guru Nandita Behera. Behera is a disciple of Padmabibhusan Guru Kelu Charam Mohapatra. Sri's Guru is known for her attention to detail, evocative abhinaya and kind nature. Sri's goal is to remain a transparent via medium, passing on the knowledge from her Guru and her dance Guru's Guru before.
Sri has also studied Mohini Attam and Kathak. She is a choreographer and co-director of Taal Dance Collective, a classical Indian/modern progressive dance company. It is here that she plays with the different forms, combining them and pushing boundaries, bringing classical Indian dance to a new audience.
Dance takes Sri to various locations, so she has developed a teaching style that allows her to provide one on one, private classes regardless of her, or her student's location.
